2008 09 12
BGI Consulting has started a research on spread of violence against women in families. The key goals of the research is to identify the scale of occurrence of this phenomenon in Lithuania; to ascertain it’s reasons; and to set proper measures of help for victims. The research will also contribute to the long term analysis of the phenomena covering 10 recent years. In order to do this there will be a sociologic research carried out and the results will be compared to analogous researches implemented in 1998 and 2002.
Violence against women in families is a specific and problematic field of research. Just to mention, there is no reliable statistics reflecting actual situation. Moreover Lithuanian legal system treats family violence as a subject of private accusation where criminal prosecution is being started only on the basis of legal complaint of the victim. The problematic of analysis of the phenomena is also related to a complexity of relationship between victim and violator encompassing such attributes as emotional and finance aspects. It should be also taken into account that the act of violence is treated differently among women resulting in semioccasional incapability to identify specific acts of violence by their victims. This also evidently affects quality of personal and family life. The key elements of the phenomena play an important role in the research undertaken by BGI Consulting.
Results of the research will be employed by Ministry of Social Security and Labour in the processes of policy making and implementation.
